Garrick Allen

"There are two ways that progress in theology can occur. One is rediscovering all the textual evidence that has been left behind. The second is to experiment, to push a new directions, to be imaginative in our collaborations."

After completing his PhD at the University of St Andrews (2015), Garrick worked as a postdoctoral researcher on ECM-Apk project at the Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal/Bethel, where he contributed to the production of a new Greek critical edition of the book of Revelation. From 2016 to 2020 he was Associate Professor in New Testament Studies at Dublin City University. In 2020, he served as Senior Lecturer in the School of Critical Studies at the University of Glasgow. In 2023, Garrick accepted the position of Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism at the University of Glasgow.

Garrick’s first book, The Book of Revelation and Early Jewish Textual Culture (Cambridge 2017), was awarded the Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise 2019.

He is currently Adjunct Fellow of the Centre for Advanced Studies “Beyond Canon,” University of Regensburg, on the Advisory Board of the UCD Newman Centre for the Study of Religion, an Academic Collaborator of the ADAPT Centre, Dublin, and a Research Associate of the School of Ancient and Modern Languages and Cultures, University of Pretoria.
