Ann Loades

"Theology isn't something that floats up out of the blue, and ideally, it ought to be at the forefront of re-visioning and transforming expectations and hopes. It ought to embody the view that this is not how things have to be."

Ann Loades was one of the most important contributors to contemporary feminist theology. She was Emerita Professor of Divinity at Durham University, and Honorary Professor at the University of St. Andrew’s. She was the first woman (and only second ever person) to be awarded a CBE for ‘services to theology’, the first female President of the Society for the Study of Theology, the first woman to be given a personal chair at Durham, and the first woman to take a seat in the Chapter of Durham Cathedral.

Ann was also Honorary Professor in the School of Divinity, University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

Her publications include Searching for Lost Coins, Feminist Theology: A Reader, Feminist Theology: Voices from the Past, and The Truth-Seeking Heart, and The Serendipity of Life’s Encounters (My Theology Book 12). In 2008, she was honored by a festschrift, Exchanges of Grace, edited by Natalie K. Watson and Stephen Burns.

Ann passed away on Dec 6, 2022.
